DJ Larry J
My name is Larry Thorne Jr. I was born on April 21, 1985 in Columbia SC to Larry Thorne Sr. and Deborah Thorne. I graduated from Columbia High School. I furthered my education at Midlands Technical College where I obtain credits towards a degree in marketing. On December 10, 2011 I married my best friend and soul mate, Saviela Edwards and we currently reside in Blythewood, SC.
Music was always was around me. I am attached to music because I grew up in a household where my dad played music all day, every day. I learned how to play drums in my church at the age of 15. I spent several years perfecting my gift through my relationship with God and practicing. I have been bless to play for National Recording Artist J Moss, Min Lawrence Rush & The Upperroom, Damion Williams, Christian Rap Artist S.E.T.H. and Eternal Voices. Eternal Voices are a part of the Real Records Entertainment Label from Columbia SC,. There are two particular events I would like to highlight that I experienced while playing for them. We traveled to Nashville Tenn. Feb 2011, to perform on the Bobby Jones Presents Show. I also was the drummer for the movie “Addicted” which was an independent film written by Eternal Voices Nov 2011.
In 2012 I was blessed with the opportunity to participate in the National Guitar Center Drum Off. Aug 2013i began to work at Killian Elementary STEAM Leaders Academy where I serve as a Teacher Assistant, Drumline Coordinator and Drum set Instructor for the 21st Century Extended Day Program. I also play Drums for two churches Victory Church Columbia SC on 1st and 4th Sundays, and Bethesda Church Summerville SC on 2nd and 3rd Sundays. From 2009 to current I have been serving as drummer and clerical assistant to the Music Director for the SC Upstate Diocese Convocations . Also as of Jan 2015 I was appointed Music Director for the International COOLJC Ministers and Deacons Wives Guild Department.
I started DJing officially in 2006 at a local skating rink here in Columbia SC until it closed down in 2008. Since then I have also had the opportunity to participate in some training at Gospel 95.3 as a radio personality. Every once in a while I get ask the question How did you get your name? Well a few years ago I linked up with Mr. Kelly Simmons who is the founder of the movement Rocnation /MAD Motivators and pastor of the Rocnation Outreach and Retreat Center. And during one of his events I was DJing at he gave me the name DJ Larry J. And since then that has been my name. Over the years I’ve been bless to Dj for many venues, events and weddings. God has truly anointed me within the parameters of these two musical gifts. On September 19, 2015, I audition for B.O.C. as the DJ and Drummer and The Lord Bless me to obtain these positions. I am excited about this opportunity to join the B.O.C. Family. To God be the Glory.
